Sustainable digital infrastructure, built to last

weserberg.net helps organizations reduce dependency, waste, and complexity by using efficient open-source systems operated responsibly in Europe.

An Operating Principle

Digital sustainability is operational sustainability

Sustainability at weserberg.net is not a marketing label. It is an operating principle. We design digital infrastructure to be efficient, maintainable, and independent, which means fewer unnecessary tools, less duplicated data, longer system lifetimes, and services that can be repaired instead of replaced.

Sustainable digital infrastructure means systems that are efficient, repairable, privacy-respecting, long-lived, and not dependent on wasteful vendor lock-in.

Five Pillars

How we make it concrete

Efficient Infrastructure

Lean websites, optimized images, minimal JavaScript, and efficient open-source services. Less unnecessary code means lower energy use and faster loading.

Longer System Lifetimes

We build systems that can be maintained, repaired, migrated, and improved, instead of replaced every few years.

Open-Source Foundation

Open-source software reduces dependency on closed vendors and supports reuse, transparency, and community maintenance.

European / German Hosting

We prefer data centers with renewable energy, credible energy reporting, and EU data protection standards.

Responsible Procurement

We avoid unnecessary cloud sprawl, oversized servers, unused SaaS subscriptions, and duplicated tools.

Lean Software

Lean software, lower waste

Every kilobyte a visitor downloads and every server cycle a service spends has a cost. We build clean HTML and CSS, keep JavaScript minimal, optimize images, and avoid heavy frameworks where they aren't needed. The result is faster pages that use fewer resources, for your team and for the infrastructure underneath.

Repairable Systems

Open-source and repairable systems

Closed platforms decide when your tools change, when they end, and whether you can take your data with you. Open-source systems can be inspected, fixed, migrated, and kept running by anyone with the skills, including a different provider than us. That makes your infrastructure repairable rather than disposable, and independent rather than captive.

Responsible Hosting

Responsible hosting and energy awareness

We host in Germany and the EU, and we prefer providers that publish energy information and use renewable power. We right-size servers to actual need rather than over-provisioning, and consolidate services instead of spreading them across redundant systems. We describe what we do honestly. We do not claim carbon-neutrality we cannot independently prove.

Longevity

Long-term maintenance instead of throwaway platforms

A system that is documented, patched, and understood can run for years. A system that is undocumented and neglected has to be rebuilt. We write things down, keep systems updated on a schedule, and design for continuity, so your infrastructure keeps working instead of quietly rotting until it forces an expensive replacement.

In Practice

How we help clients work more sustainably

Concrete choices, not slogans.

Consolidate Tools

We replace scattered SaaS subscriptions with a smaller set of maintained services you actually control.

Right-Size Infrastructure

We match server capacity to real usage, avoiding oversized setups that waste energy and money.

Document Everything

Documented systems can be maintained by others and outlive any single person or provider.

We use honest language on purpose. We describe our infrastructure as energy-aware, resource-efficient, designed to reduce waste, and long-lived, not as "carbon-neutral," "green IT," or "zero impact." Those claims require certificates, data-center reports, or carbon accounting we would have to prove, and we would rather be credible than impressive.

Build a more responsible digital stack

weserberg.net treats sustainability as a technical discipline: efficient systems, open-source tools, responsible hosting, and infrastructure you can maintain for the long term.
